Ian Chalmers is the founder and design director of Pivot Design Group. He is also the founder and executive director of DesignMeets, an industry forum where multidisciplinary professionals can share ideas and explore new ways for creating meaningful design solutions for our everyday life.
With more than 25 years of experience in the fields of design and design research, Ian is an acknowledged industry leader and design solutions provider for businesses and organizations in Canada’s public and private sectors and the academic community. He views design as a strategic driver for enhancing the general health and wellbeing of people, services and organizations in our society.
For the last 20 years, his work at Pivot Design Group has focused on the healthcare vertical, bringing his people-centric design research focus to researchers, scientists, physicians, institutions across Canada. Over this period, he has successfully completed over 2,000 projects for more than 300 clients in their specific markets. Through DesignMeets, his events have enjoyed critical success as a valued platform for disseminating different points of view, with numerous events on different topics of interest staged in different cities.
Ian is also a committed member of the community, donating his expertise and resources as a board member for Pencils for Kids, a charity that provides scholarships, farming programs and sewing programs for girls in a small community in Nigér, West Africa. He sits on the board of directors of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers, the only professional association representing design practitioners in North America. Ian also serves on the Bachelor of Interaction Design Program Advisory Committee at Sheridan College, and the George Brown School of Design, Design Management Program Advisory Committee at George Brown College.
