Winter 2022 Updates & FAQ

In the 2021 Fall term, Student Housing and Residence Life welcomed back residents for in-person activities and as such UTM Residence has remained open for the Fall 2021 & Winter 2022 semesters. This year we experienced a high demand for residence spaces and were able to successfully place many students in residence for the full Fall/Winter term. Given our demand for residence spaces this fall, as we approach the winter semester, we have limited spaces and have a number of students on a waitlist. Please see below for some frequently asked questions regarding residence in the winter semester:

Break

I already have a space in residence but will be arriving in the winter term. What should I do?

If you have already secured a spot in residence, you can arrive when you are able to. If your arrival date has changed, please update our Late Move-In Tracker.

All students living in U of T Residences are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Additionally, the Government of Canada has outlined the requirements for Mandatory Quarantine for Travelers to Canada and has put in place an emergency order under the Quarantine Act. I am currently on the waitlist but will be arriving in the winter term and need a space. What should I do?

We currently have a number of students on the waitlist with a limited number of spaces available. We are working to offer spaces as quickly as possible as they become available. If you have questions regarding the waitlist, please feel free to contact our Residence Services Desk at resdesk.utm@utoronto.ca or 905-828-5286.

If you would like to explore off campus housing as an option, you can explore resources available here: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/housing/residence-services/campus-housing and here: https://offcampushousing.utoronto.ca/. Additionally, we will be hosting an off-campus information session on November 26 from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM (EST). More information is available on our website.

I have not applied to residence but am considering residence for the winter semester. How do I apply?

We currently have a number of students on the waitlist with a limited number of spaces available. We are working to offer spaces as quickly as possible as they become available. However, if you are interested in residence and would like to be added to the waitlist, you can apply by completing the following steps on StarRez:

  1. Login to StarRez with your UTORid and Password
  2. Click Apply to Residence
  3. Complete the UTM – Undergrad Academic Year 2021-22 application

Should I cancel my place on the residence waitlist and explore off campus housing?

You can continue to stay on the waitlist and explore off campus housing at the same time. We will work as quickly as possible to offer spaces off the waitlist, but if you find off campus housing before we are able to give you an offer, you can contact the Residence Services Desk to inquire about your options on the waitlist.
