Life Science LLC

The Life Science Living Learning Community (LSLLC) is a residentially based community for students enrolled in BIO152 & BIO153 during the 2019-2020 academic year. Students will live in residence in a common community and will be registered in the same tutorial for both BIO152 & BIO153 as a cohort. Participation in the LSLLC will centre upon career clarity, experiential learning & faculty engagement in a supportive Residence community.

The pedagogical approach taken to co-curricular learning and development within the LSLLC will be primarily experiential. By foregrounding experience, participants will be given the chance to be active learners. Utilizing a peer-facilitated approach within a shared living environment, this living-learning community will seek to engage students socially, intellectually and professionally in ways that promote community development, faculty-student interaction, and an appreciation for the various ways in which one’s individual knowing is enhanced when other voices are involved in a learning experience.

Students living in the LSLLC will benefit in a number of ways, including:

  • Community development within a cohort of dedicated peers and classmates enrolled in BIO152 & BIO153
  • Academically focused peer-support in the form of facilitated study groups, discipline-specific co-curricular programming & enhanced opportunities to develop specific research interests
  • Increased opportunities for faculty-student interaction

In partnership with the Department of Biology & supported by a team of dedicated Residence staff, the Life Sciences LLC prepares students to be academically successful and provides them with unique opportunities to learn about their field of study.
