Allison Lucas

What do you do?
I am part of a team that is responsible for providing print services to all members of the UTM community.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
The network of colleagues and faculty. I love chatting with people about new and exciting things happening in their departments / fields of research.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
I love when I’m able to help someone accomplish what they need to do – whether it’s ideas or working with them on a project for their department.

What do you like doing outside of work?
Outside of the office, I spend my time refereeing hockey and fishing.

What is your favorite food?
Smoked salmon

FUN FACT
I graduated from a Regional Arts high school majoring in Visual Arts and minoring in Music, and I have been serving on both the Display Your Pride and the Run For The Cure committees at UTM for the past 2 years.

 


 

Andrea De Vito
Assistant Director, Retail Services & Administration

What do you do?
I am responsible for:

  • Oversight of all departmental administrative activities and office operations (e.g. budgeting, procurement, marketing/communications, meal plans)
  • Oversight of all retail services (vending, print shop, mail room, third-party contracts and leases)

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
My favourite thing about UTM is our connection to the prestige and worldwide recognition of the University of Toronto combined with our campus-wide desire to push UTM to the forefront of innovation.  I also like double espressos from Second Cup.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The part of my role I like the most is having direct connections with students, staff, and faculty at UTM and involving them in conversations about making our departmental services better.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I have 4 kids – that says it all.

What is your favorite food?
Anything smoked.

FUN FACT
In all of the offices I have worked in at UTM, I have never had a window.  Also, a deer almost ate my Blackberry.
 



Angela de Lorenzis
Office Supervisor

What do you do?
I work with all members of our team to ensure they are able to effectively manage and execute their roles and responsibilities, as well as work with the community when it comes to education and support regarding meal plans.  I am also a central point of contact for our department.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
The company of my colleagues and being a part of an ever-growing and evolving team. It has been enjoyable watching the campus grow and change through the years and being part of one of the best universities in the world.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
I enjoy working with my team, helping students, and the UTM community.

What do you like doing outside of work?
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, gardening and travelling to sunny places.

What is your favorite food?
All things Italian.

FUN FACT
I am one of the original Hospitality & Retail Services team members having been here for over 13 years and being part of the creation of the Meal Plan Program on campus.
 



Arthur ‘Art’ Gilewski
Food Service Operations Coordinator

What do you do?
Operational liaison for our department with the campus food services provider.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
The community energy, as well as the calmness of a natural setting.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
Ensuring that the food service needs, of as many students, faculty and staff as possible are met.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I am an automotive & motorcycle enthusiast. I enjoy travelling, outdoor activities, music, art & design, and reading.

What is your favorite food?
Pizza… but I’ll also try almost anything once.

FUN FACT
My professional management experience ranges from bands, nightclubs, restaurants, hotels, and casinos to university & college food service.

 


 

Carlos Salvatierra
The Print Shop

What do you do?
I help customers with their printing needs.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
Being surrounded by nature on campus.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
Problem solving – I like coming up with solutions for customers based on their needs.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I like golfing, fishing, camping, and spending time with my kids

What is your favorite food?
Steak and shrimp.

FUN FACT
I started working in the printing industry 10 years ago in the downtown Toronto core (the Financial District).

 


 

Diane Mesch
Transactions Services Coordinator

What do you do?
I coordinate and support the technical side of the meal plan program and my work colleagues across the department (all business units).

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
Being surrounded by academia and curiosity, nature, and deer. I also enjoy the company of my coworkers, enjoy the food, and I really enjoyed the 17 years I was a part of the UTM Dragon boat team!

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
Learning new technology and working with people.

What do you like doing outside of work?
Supporting my daughter in her extracurricular activities and spending time with family.

What is your favorite food?
Favorite food to make is Adobo and anything with the crockpot. My favorite food lately to eat is a Belgium Waffle topped with fresh mixed berries and a good dollop of whip cream.

FUN FACT
Traveled the South Pacific for 6 months. Climbed the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand. Scuba dove in the Great Barrier reef in Australia.


 


 

Lauren Grenier
Special Events Coordinator

What do you do?
I work with departments and external clients assisting them with venue/room selection other event details. I oversee their catering orders and provide oversight regarding quantity and themes.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
My favourite thing about UTM is the autonomy in the community that allows people to innovate and the location is quite special. It feels like we are in our own little town that is surrounded by brilliances.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The part of my role that I like the most is meeting new people. Whether it is a department I am working with, an external client or even a film crew neither are ever the same

What do you like doing outside of work?
When I am not working in the warmer months I like to paddle board up the Credit River, hike, challenge myself with new DIY projects. In the cooler months, I like to plan my Halloween costume, plan my next big trip abroad and cook. Most of the time I love to be with my loved ones and pets.

What is your favorite food?
If I had to pick one favourite food item, it would have to my mom and dad’s homemade pizza.

FUN FACT
Before UTM I was working in many different fields and was unsure where I was headed. I decided to adventure in the film industry and started working as a locations support person. In late 2018, I was approached by Sabrina to jump on board as a causal employee to help with their weekend film dates and the rest is history. 

 




Lindsay Passmore
Special Events Coordinator

What do you do?
I develop and execute all aspects of the event planning process from start to finish for internal events, external events and conferences. In addition to planning and executing events, I establish positive working relationships with my clients which allows me to address their wants and needs ensuring that they feel confident in my ability to deliver to their expectations.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
As UTM continues to grow and expand, my favourite thing is that it still maintains the feel of a smaller campus and upholds a sense of community.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The part of my role that I like the most is seeing all of the events that I work on come to fruition. It is satisfying to see an event that I’ve worked on be executed and meet/exceed the clients expectations.

What do you like doing outside of work?
The three things I like to do most outside of work are: play and watch sports, go to the cottage and cook/bake.  

What is your favorite food?
Pizza and pasta!

FUN FACT
Before making the switch to the educational sector, I worked in the marketing agency world in experiential events. It was in that role that I got the chance to drive across Canada to every province to set up and execute a hockey themed winter festival for 6 months. Following this, I made the transition to U of T and worked for the Alumni Relations department on the St. George campus for two years before taking on my current role at UTM.

 


 

Lisa Ali
Special Events Coordinator

What do you do?
Determine the logistical details for clients while analyzing their needs and supporting their objectives throughout the entire event planning process to produce exceptional events.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
Being a part of a community that is rich with diversity and multiculturalism.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
No two events are alike. I find it interesting to learn about the various student associations and faculty programming & events.

What do you like doing outside of work?
Dining at new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, watching basketball.

What is your favorite food?
French fries & Gravy…something so simple but I love it.

FUN FACT
While my background in events is mostly corporate, I’ve always been intrigued by planning from an educational perspective. Transitioning to a university has been a positive experience, and has definitely added a new dimension of planning to my skill set. Also, the photo above was taken in the NBA Trophy Room where all 4 iconic NBA trophies were on display when the Raptors won the NBA finals. NBA Canada was one of my corporate clients, and I worked on an event with NBA Canada and OLG to create a mirrored infinity room for an ultimate fan experience – it was such an exciting time and event to be involved in!  

 


 

Mireille Khreich
Special Events Coordinator

What do you do?
Most of my work revolves around building strong relationships with clients, and planning a successful event. An event could be anything from a department lunch, to a marathon, or a major Netflix film shoot.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
In addition to being surrounded by nature, and close to home, UTM has this ‘homey’ feeling that is hard to find anywhere else. UTM also acknowledges the importance of diversity and inclusion in the place of work, as well as the role of women in leadership positions, and this to me is the definition of being Canadian. 

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The ability to work with clients from different fields/ companies/ departments, the neverending learning opportunities, and the challenges that I face every day, is what I love the most about my job.

What do you like doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m a very social person most of the time. I love to travel, go on road trips, and make new experiences. I also love to workout, cook, and watch standup comedy shows as much as I can.

What is your favorite food?
I come from a middle-eastern background, and food is a very big part of my culture. I’m very open to trying different kinds of foods from around the world and something I focus on when I travel.

FUN FACT
I have been in the department for 3 years after moving from UofT St George. Since then, we’ve had a complete turnover in our office, and I’m the only person who has worked with both teams. Some of the old team members had been at UTM for over 30 years, and some of new members joined a month ago.

 


 

Pawel Wegrzyn
Retail Assistant

What do you do?
I am a retail assistant which entails doing many different things, some of which are: sorting and delivering mail, taking care of the UTM Farm Walls in Colman Commons (seeding, growing, and harvesting plants), checking and stocking vending machines, helping The Print Shop with cutting, folding, applying decals, etc. and most recently being support for Diane. Also, I drive around in the blue Kubota transporting things and waving at people!

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
My favorite thing about this campus is the location because it's surrounded by forests and wildlife.  This allows me to go have lunch in nature, do handstands on the grass, meditate outside, or just go for a hike.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The thing that I enjoy most about my role is being able to do so many different things and helping others.  I like being part of the sustainable initiatives as well, like running the UTM Farm Wall initiative, which directly impacts staff and students.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I spend a lot of time outside doing yoga in the park and meditating, going on hikes, camping, playing tennis, and participating in art/craft shows.

What is your favorite food?
I like most fruits. Some of my go-to are mangoes, bananas, and avocados.

FUN FACT
I was a nationally ranked tennis player and received a scholarship to the USA, where I lived for 9 years and coached tennis in Miami. After returning, I wrote a book called: Be Human, Not a Zombie, and then shortly after was fortunate to get a position at UTM.

 


 

Rachel Samson
Special Events Coordinator

What do you do?
As a Special Events Coordinator, my mission is to make my clients’ event goals a reality.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
I love the nature and the UTM campus. It reminds me so much of the university I went to (and worked at for a brief time (Ateneo de Manila University, in the Philippines), just a slightly smaller version and with Canadian wildlife.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The opportunity to work with a diverse range of events. My favorite part of event planning is being creative with solutions and strategies.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I love traveling, discovering new places, cultures, and food! But I also love exploring and finding hidden gems in my home city/province. Most of the time, I like being a homebody, reading or painting (when inspiration strikes).

What is your favorite food?
I love food so I have lots of favorites. But now that I’m miles away from my family, Filipino food is my go-to. Cooking our family recipes makes me feel closer to them in a way.

FUN FACT
I have moved many times – from Manila to Regina, and now here in Mississauga – and, despite the thousands of miles I’ve travelled, I’m glad that my heart still leads me to “being of service to others”. 

 


 

Rick Keown
Retail Assistant

What do you do?
We deliver the mail and packages to all departments and students here at UTM. Our goal in the mail room is to try and make your day just a little easier by doing pretty well anything that will help you out. We do our very best to never say “no”.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
I really enjoy the work environment here at UTM – the people really make the campus great. Also, where else can you work in Mississauga that you see deer every day?

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
I enjoy being part of a small team where we all share the same goals, and at the same time, have a good time getting the job done. It’s not work if you enjoy what you’re doing!

What do you like doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to mountain bike or play golf, anything that gets me outside and in the hot weather.

What is your favorite food?
I love pizza or any junk food although I have been making a serious effort to eat healthy so, goodbye pizza!!

FUN FACT
Back in the day I was a serious golfer and was lucky enough to qualify for the Canadian Open by winning the Monday qualifier over some of the better PGA tour pros of the time. That lead me to work for a new golf store start up where I was part of a team that took them from 1 store to over 40, in just a few short years.

 


 

Sabrina Coccagna
Assistant Director, Conferences & Special Events

What do you do?
We take care of all events on campus, room bookings outside of the academic calendar, film shoots and summer conference business.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
I went to College for Hospitality management and I love that I can still do that but within the setting of the University. I love the growth that is always happening at UTM.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
I have worked with film shoots since the 90’s and I love that we can host them at UTM. It is such a fast-paced action-filled part of my job.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I love live music, travelling, food and wine, basketball and dogs.

What is your favorite food?
So hard to pin point, but I’d choose chicken wings.

FUN FACT
I worked in film in Whistler, and then moved to hotels and bars in Toronto, and when I came to UTM I brought film shoots with me.

 


 

Sandy Carvalho
Financial Assistant

What do you do?
My role at UTM is to take care of all things financial within the Hospitality & Retail Services Department. 

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
I love being a part of the UTM Hospitality team.  We are a community with diverse experiences, and I look forward to each day with my colleagues.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
Being behind the scenes and making everything click for the UTM Hospitality & Retail Services team.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I most enjoy spending time planning family get-togethers 

What is your favorite food?
Anything that we have at a family dinner.

FUN FACT
I have always been in the Hospitality Industry in one role or another- from being a Red Seal Chef, to many years of restaurant ownership, to importing wines. 

 


 

Sanjhana Doré
Hospitality & Retail Services Assistant

What do you do?
Provide customer service and support as the first point of contact for the department. I work most closely with the Conferences & Events team as I manage table bookings and room bookings, and I also manage questions about meal plans – among many other things.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
My favorite part of UTM is definitely the nature, having previously worked downtown, I am blown away daily by just how beautiful the campus is. I love taking walks around the campus in my free time.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
I really enjoy problem solving for both faculty and students - whether it is trying to find the perfect room for an event or helping students solve their meal plan issues.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I am an avid armchair sport fanatic, I love to read, travel and be outdoors. 

What is your favorite food?
Seafood from any cuisine.

FUN FACT
I am a classically trained Chef, who worked in the restaurant industry for a few years before transitioning into working for Residence Services at George Brown College, and now with Hospitality & Retail Services at UTM.

 


 

 

Sarah Holden
Marketing & Communications Strategist

What do you do?
My job is to ensure you know what we are doing!

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
I am constantly in awe of the UTM campus – between seeing deer & other wildlife as I walk between buildings (and we are in the middle of Canada’s 6th largest city) to the energy, curiosity, and ambition I feel on campus; I love that I am surrounded by so many smart people who are actually changing the world!

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
That I get to be a part of our departmental Sustainability Initiatives. I am fortunate enough to be spearheading the Fair Trade program at UTM. Did you know UTM is the first Silver Fair Trade Campus in Canada? I am very proud of that.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I like adventuring, dog by my side. Road trips, canoe trips, catching up with friends, and volunteering with rescue dogs keep me busy. All the while, I am still trying to learn how to cook.

What is your favorite food?
Honestly, anything with slimy mushrooms. I LOVE slimy mushrooms.

FUN FACT
I worked in the advertising agency world for the last 8 years, and moving to a university atmosphere has been better than I could have imagined!

 


 

Suresh Krishnan
Retail Services Manager

What do you do?
I am responsible for the retail operations at UTM, including The Print Shop, Mail Services, vending, ATM services, and I oversee The Bookstore contract obligations. Additionally I am responsible for the UTM Bees and the UTM Farm Walls in Colman Commons.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
There is always something to do. I like that ideas are well ventilated, argued, and sometimes revisited later if it's not appropriate at the current time.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The diverse responsibilities- from Bees to ‘Beeness’.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I like to cook.

What is your favorite food?
Singapore cuisine.

Treizi Perihana
Manager, Conferences & Special Events

What do you do?
I am responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Conference & Events office, which includes all event activities and film productions on campus. I am also responsible for assigning work based on business needs, individual skills, project requirements and availability of resources. Lastly, I provide support to the senior management team for the long-term planning, by making recommendations and implementing strategic plans.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
I love the vibe at UTM; it is very friendly and easy going. This positive culture is created by the people working at UTM and the physical environment. My team is amazing and they make coming to work every day a joy! In terms of the physical environment, UTM is very Zen and I love working in a building surrounded by nature.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The best part of my role at UTM is working with my amazing team to coordinate film productions. Although they are a lot of hard work and long hours, film productions can also be a lot of fun and a great way to meet new and interesting people. Also, I am always amazed to see how their art departments completely transform the look of a space to make it look like a specific location.  Some of my best memories at UTM are working on a set of a film shoot.

What do you like doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to travel and explore new destinations and cultures. I have currently visited 20 different countries and I believe this has helped me develop empathy and a deeper understanding of other cultures. Since I can’t travel every month, I spend most of my weekends with friends and family exploring Toronto’s restaurant scene as eating (not necessary cooking) is one of my passions.

What is your favorite food?
I really can’t say I have one favorite food as I genuinely enjoy trying different types of cuisines, from Japanese to Indian. With that being said, you can never go wrong with a bowl of pasta!

FUN FACT
Prior to joining UTM in an Event focused role, I worked in Human Resources at the Marriott Eaton Center Hotel where I was responsible for all recruitment. After that, I worked at UofT St. George campus for 2 years before coming to UTM. 

 


 

Vicky Jezierski
Director

What do you do?
I am responsible for managing UTM’s Hospitality team which tirelessly works on making experiences exceptional for students, faculty and staff.

What is your favorite thing about UTM?
My favorite thing about UTM is the small community feel and the most beautiful forest setting. I also have the best and most talented team that enjoys looking after the UTM community.

What is the part of your role at UTM that you like the most?
The best part of my job is the opportunity to learn something new every day as my days are never the same. From food services and sustainability projects to events and movie productions it’s never a dull moment at UTM.

What do you like doing outside of work?
I love to travel but when at home, my Golden Labrador keeps me very busy. 

What is your favorite food?
Good cheese, fresh bread, and Malbec.

FUN FACT
I love coffee and The Second Cup has my favorite cup of java.
