Thank you to all who participated and to the brands who donated products.
Global Climate Strike Week | Doi Chaang 'Sustainability' Breakfast 'n Learn:
On September 26th, in support of the Global Climate Strike Week we welcomed a coffee expert from Doi Chaang to our newly opened Fair Trade Corner to host a ticketed event and discuss all the ways in which Canterbury, and Doi Chaang specifically, work to not only protect human rights, but also the land.
We then had a lively Q&A and enjoyed some unique-to-UTM lattes in free reusable Hospitality & Retail Services ceramic reusable mugs for attendees to take back and reuse in the future.
2018 - 2019 Academic Year
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Exam Extravaganza:
On April 9th free Ben & Jerry's ice cream was offered in the IB court as a pick-me-up between exams and a welcome study break. We offered a variety of flavours, all dairy-free, for any students, staff and faculty who stopped by.
In addition to free Ben & Jerry's we also gave away stickers, pins, and information on Fair Trade and what it means for UTM as a designated Fair Trade Campus.
Breakfast 'n Learn with Doi Chaang:
On March 13th we hosted a Breakfast 'n Learn with Doi Chaang. Students, staff and faculty enjoyed some Ethiopean and Guatemalan Fair Trade coffee. They learned about what it means to be Fair Trade, about the origins of coffee, modern trends in café's today, and the bean to café process. The coffee was delicious, the material enlightening, and the samples were decadent. Doi Chaang staff demonstrated how to properly brew the perfect cup of coffee using a Chemex and provided attendees with samples to enjoy with the delicious breakfast provided by the Hospitality team.
Free Reusable Mug Giveaway with Fair Trade Coffee Stamp Card:
In the first week of February the Hospitality & Retail Services team gave out free reusable UTM HRS mugs, with the catch that you had to hear us out - when you bring a reusable mug anywhere on campus to purchase coffee or tea you can get a discount (25¢ off Doi Chaang Fair Trade coffee, Numi Fair Trade tea, Four O'Clock Fair Trade tea and Second Cup, and 10¢ off Starbucks and Tim Hortons). We also gave out stamp cards that were good for a free Doi Chaang coffee!
Fair Trade Campus Week:
We celebrated Fair Trade Campus week September 24th-28th with lots of educational tidbits, enthusiastic student partners, and exquisite Fair Trade treats.
