Why does it matter? What difference can I make?

Fair Trade is 50% owned by the producers 

producers have a say on overall strategy, use of resouces, and setting prices, premiums, and standards

Fair Trade Minimum Price 

the producers receive a price that covers the cost of sustainable production and protects them from fluctuating market prices

Fair Trade Premium 

over and above the Minimum Price, the Premium goes into a communal fund to support the workers and their communities, and the producers determine how the fund will be spent
