RLG388H5F: Special Topics in the History of Religions: Youth and Religion in North America. (S. Chattoo)

This course will examine youth participation, innovtions, identities, and movements in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and spiritual but not religions groups (SBNR) in North America.This course draws on current scholarship in the fields of history, religious studies, and anthropology, and will examine the socio-religious dynamics of power, race, gender, culture, and politics in order to study the ways in which youth negotiate their identities in the their religious contexts. Students will also engage in critical analysis of various media forms, including youth-produced videos, graphic novels, poetry, and music in order to gain literacy in the multi-modal works being produced in a contemporary context.
