Helen Leung (She/Her), MSW, RSW (Currently On Leave)

Title/Position
Personal Counsellor & Mental Health Worker
Health & Counselling Centre

I am a cisgender woman and immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong as a child.

Experience/Areas of Expertise

I am a registered social worker with over ten years of experience working with students on a number of issues that impact on their mental health, such as anxiety, depression, academic stress, and relationship challenges (aka life!). I have a master’s degree in social work from York University and completed my undergrad at UofT and can definitely empathize with some of the challenges students go through during their time here.

I have training in different kinds of therapy (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) but at the end of the day, I see counselling as a space where people feel accepted for who they are and where we can engage in an honest conversation about where you are and what you need. My goal as a counsellor is to support you in whatever way you feel is most helpful to you and to recognize and honour how different aspects of our identity shape our perspectives and life experiences. Life is hard and we all need a compassionate, non-judgmental space where we can feel heard and figure out what we need for our own wellness.

Things I Love

Sleeping in, my morning cup of coffee, noodles and dumplings (and eating carbs in general), yoga when I can make myself do it, connecting with friends I haven’t talked to in a while, and having a lazy afternoon to myself.
