The Wellness 101 Training Program takes place over 6 weeks and aims to help you gain and develop health literacy to support navigating the challenges of university life. By engaging directly with health care professionals, this Program will also provide you with practical skills that can be applied to your personal life, added to your resume, and support your future career.

Program Runs: September 2026 – August 2027
When you complete the Program, you will be able to:
- Identify common student-specific stressors impacting academic success
- Describe evidence-informed wellness strategies
- Demonstrate skills to address common and persistent stressors
- List wellness-related programs and services, both on and off campus
- Design a unique, practical project that can be applied directly for personal use and/or adapted by HCC to share with the UTM student population shared with peers (Knowledge Translation)
- Receive a Certificate of Completion and a CCR notation

- Introduction (In-Person or Virtual): Building a Wellness Routine (Led by HCC, Health Promotion Staff)
WEEK 2 (Dates Available: Sep. 21; Nov. 2; Jan. 25; Mar. 1)
- Lesson 1 (In-Person): Managing Stress and Coping with Academic Pressures (Led by HCC, Counsellor)
WEEK 3 (Dates Available: Sept. 28; Nov. 9; Feb. 1; Mar. 8)
- Lesson 2 (In-Person): Prioritizing Rest (Led by HCC, Registered Nurse)
WEEK 4 (Dates Available: Oct. 5; Nov. 16; Feb. 8; Mar. 15)
- Lesson 3 (In-Person): Harnessing Resilience (Persistence & Motivation) (Led by HCC, Mental Health Care Coordinator)
WEEK 5 (Dates Available: Oct. 19; Nov. 23; Feb. 22; Mar. 22)
- Special Topics (In-Person or Virtual): options can include ADHD, Imposter Syndrome, Nutrition, Procrastination, Digital Wellbeing, etc.
WEEK 6 (Dates Available: Nov. 30; Mar. 29, Online)
- Capstone Project (In-Person or Virtual): Students can choose between an in person or online submissions (Led by HCC Health Professionals)
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Do I have to complete the Program in order? While you are strongly encouraged to complete the Program in order, you do not have to. You can choose to start at any point with any of the sessions, based on what works best with your schedule. Your attendance will be noted upon completion of each session for tracking purposes. A Health Promotion Staff will support you in tracking your progress with the Program.
- How long are the sessions? The sessions can take anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours, depending on the practical activity of the session. Each session will include a grounding exercise, a foundational learning component, and an opportunity to engage and practice with the content learned. Once you sign up for the Program, a Health Promotion Staff from HCC will follow up to confirm next steps and send calendar confirmation of each session. Overall, the Program requires approximately a 10-hour commitment over the course of a full year.
- Where do the sessions take place? The in-person sessions will take place at the Wellness Den (DV2207, Student Services Hub in Davis) unless otherwise specified ahead of the session.
- What if I miss a week? You can make up any of the missed sessions during any of the subsequent listed dates shown above. The Program provides multiple opportunities to attend any of the sessions. Your deadline to complete participation for the 26/27 academic year is August 2027.
- Can I attend the sessions virtually? While the majority of the Program does take place in-person, there will be some sessions offered online. You are encouraged to speak with a Health Promotion Staff if you experience any difficulty attending the Program in-person.
- How come I don’t see any Summer dates? Summer dates will be available in Winter 2027. Summer months can be a great time to focus on completing the Program.
