Show Up for Mental Health!

On March 4th, 2026, join us for our Let’s Talk UTM event!

Let’s Talk UTM is an event that aims to bring together students, staff, and faculty to encourage open conversations, education, and capacity building related to mental health. By sharing our stories and lived experiences, we hope to reduce the stigma associated with mental health and help make UTM a more open and inclusive campus environment.

Through a combination of interactive activities, sharing resources, and learning through storytelling, we highlight the importance of mental well-being, the struggles we can experience and their relevance to everyday life.

This year, Let’s Talk UTM will run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the CCT Atrium!

Event Features:

  • Mental Health Resource Fair
  • Peer-led activities and conversations
  • 🌷Crepe 🌸 paper 🌼 flower 🪻 making 🌹 workshops 🌻 with 🌷 Studio X

garden of words

Studio X presents Garden of Words, a workshop series connecting mental health conversations with the calming practice of handmade crepe paper flowers. Rooted in cultural traditions of care and reflection, flower-making offers a grounding, tactile way to slow down and reconnect with ourselves.

In partnership with the Health and Counselling Centre (HCC) and the UTM Mental Health Student Association and the UTM Women's Health & Wellness Hub, we’re hosting three cozy, café-style sessions where participants can craft their own paper flowers while engaging in guided conversations led by the HCC.

Each flower created will take part in a shared, collective installation showcased at Let's Talk UTM - an event focused on conversations about mental health.

Upcoming Sessions:

  • February 9 | 11:00am - 1:00pm
  • February 13 | 11:00am - 1:00pm
  • March 3 | 11:00am - 1:00pm

Mental Health Training: SafeTALK

Student Affairs & Services is excited to invite interested students to participate in LivingWorks SafeTALK, an in-person training free and open to all UTM students, that equips people to be alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to connect them with further help.

SafeTALK provides skills training for active listening and understanding, before learning how to refer someone to support. Please note that spaces are limited, and that registration is on a first-come first-served basis.

Student Services HUB: Hello Desk

The Hello Desk staff invites students to come and visit the SSH and engage in a conversation about how they are feeling and contribute to a collective display.

As this display grows, the UTM community will be able to see a visual representation of how the community is feeling and be reminded that they are not alone.

More to come! Stay tuned!
