Hortimax Synopta

Hortimax Synopta is the software that controls the research greenhouse environment.  As a researcher, you can view or download past and present environmental conditions.

To connect to Hortimax Synopta, you will need to setup UTMVPN and remote access to Research Greenhouse Synopta computer with the help of IT&S.  You will also need to contact us to obtain your log-in credentials.

To remote to Research Greenhouse Synopta computer

1. Ask assistance from IT&S to setup UTMVPN and remote desktop connection on your computer.  You will need your utorid and password.  You will also need the other log-in credentials that you can obtain from us.
2. Connect to UTMVPN through GlobalProtect using your utorid and utorid password.
3. Remote in to Research Greenhouse Synopta computer through Remote Desktop Connection.  Log-in using the username and password provided to your lab.
4. Connect to Hortimax Synopta by clicking on Synopta icon on the desktop. Log-in using your lab username and password.
5. Remember to exit Synopta by clicking File on the menu bar.  Then click on Exit.
6. Make sure to sign-out from the desktop connection.

To view environment log in Hortimax Synopta

1. Connect to UTMVPN using GlobalProtect.  You need your utorid and password.
2. Remote in to Research Greenhouse Synopta computer.   
3. Log in to HortiMaX Synopta v. 4.1.2.11 using your lab username and password.
4. On the lower left panel, click on Graphs.
5. Select the graph with name Researcher only - Room ### Environment.
6. On the table below the graph, tick the box/boxes for environmental variable(s) of interest.  For example, “Air temperature” in “Sensor box ###-1”.
7. Also, make sure to click on the variable of interest.  This will apply the y-axis scale for that variable.
8. To change the x-axis for the graph, select a date on the calendar icon at the top.
9. Click and hold the mouse on the black vertical line on the graph to see the values at any given time.   You will see the values change on the table below the graph.
10. Remember to log-out.

To download environmental data from Hortimax Synopta

1. Connect to UTMVPN using GlobalProtect.  You need your utorid and password.
2. Remote in to Research Greenhouse Synopta computer. 
3. Log in to HortiMaX Synopta v. 4.1.2.11 using your lab username and password.
4. On the lower left panel, click on Tables.
5. Double click on Researcher only - Room ### Environment.
6. On the Menu bar, click on Table > Table properties. 
7. On the new window,  go to Time tab and modify options accordingly.  Click Okay.
8. To save, go to the Menu bar, click on File > Export and save as CSV to Desktop.  Click on Save.
9. Go to Synopta desktop.  Copy and paste your saved csv file to your own desktop.
10. Remember to delete your file from Synopta desktop.
11. Remember to exit from Hortimax Synopta.
12. Sign out from your Remote Desktop application.
