Biography

Mitchell T. Bonney is a 3rd year PhD candidate in the Department of Geography. Throughout his academic career he has held many positions dedicated to improving the student athlete experience. During his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto (St. George), Mitchell led Victoria College’s coed intramural sports program and sat on the UofT Intramural Council. During his master’s degree at Queen’s University, Mitchell helped run the geography/geology intramural sports program. Now at UTM, Mitchell continues his involvement in athletics as the coach of the UTM ultimate Frisbee team.

During his PhD, Mitchell has also engaged in more general student outreach. He is a site coordinator for Let’s Talk Science, a national science outreach organization focused on K-12 students. He also works with young students as a volunteer at the Riverwood Conservancy Junior Naturalist Club. Mitchell contributes time to organizing events with the Department of Geography, where he was recently recognized with a service award.

Mr. Bonney will begin a one-year term on the UTM Campus Council as a graduate student, from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.

Biography

Cesar has been part of the UTM community for three years as a student in the Commerce-Marketing Specialist. For the last two years he served as a Residence Don, mentoring communities of first year students, co-hosting a major artistic showcase gala and helping kick-start a fundraiser for SickKids Hospital. During his second year, he co-founded and served as the Marketing Director of the Latin American Student Association creating cultural exchange events for the student body. He also has been part of ICUBE as an entrepreneur and work-study, and The Medium as the Chair of the Board of Directors. During his fourth year, Cesar will be forming part of the IMI Business Association as the Marketing Director, and has a vision to keep on fostering community at UTM.

 

Mr. Lozano was elected to the UTM Campus Council as a full-time undergraduate student for a one-year term, from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.

Biography

Xing Wei is a second year student in the Finance Specialist program at UTM. In 2017, Xing participated in hosting a University Application Conference which helped students learn more about the information of Canadian universities as well as the application process. As a member of the event staff, she dedicated the 1st Annual China-Canada Television Festival in February 2019. She has worked at JD.com Inc and IBG Business Development Department as an intern during summer 2019, which provided her with a strong understanding of platform operation. Xing also served on the UTM Students’ Union and the Wechat team in her first year studies in UTM, and would continue to support the work of UTMSU.

Ms Wei was elected to the UTM Campus Council as a full-time undergraduate student for a one-year term, from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.

Biography

As a UTMSU volunteer, Assistant to the Board, Vice-President External for P.A.U.S.E, and Vice-President University Affairs, Maya has been involved in the Fight the Fees Campaign and understands how the education system is inaccessible due to rising tuition fees. This has provided her with the experience to combat issues many students face such as mental health stigmatization, and academic conflicts. All individuals at UTM deserve an affordable education, safe spaces on campus and the option to defer midterms without having to pay extra on top of their high tuition fees and she is passionate about this advocacy work.

Ms Tomkiewicz was elected to UTM Campus Council as a part-time student for a one-year term on Campus Council, from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.

Biography

Biography

Ms Melinda Ann Callahan is a fourth-year student working towards completing her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.  She has been involved in the University of Toronto Mississauga Students' Union, working as an elected Board of Director, as well as helping to run Free Breakfast Wednesdays for the last two years.  In the summer, she has worked full-time with the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth as a Project and Communications Assistant.

Biography

Arjan has been at UTM for seven years - three of them as a graduate student. He has represented the graduate student community in campus governance in several roles, including as President of the UTM Association of Graduate Students (UTMAGS) and on the Campus Affairs Committee.

Biography

Ms Kayla Dias is working towards a Master’s of Science degree through the Cell and Systems Biology department at UofT, and is interested in how trees respond, remember and recover from abiotic stress. In 2015, she completed her H.BSc at UTM with a Specialist in Comparative Physiology.

Passionate about education, Kayla has been involved in pedagogical research, science outreach through Let’s Talk Science and enhancing undergraduate courses by creating laboratory videos.

Eager to form a stronger graduate community, Kayla has served on UTM Association of Graduate Students as Social Director (2016-2017) and currently as Vice President (2017-2018), as well as the Secretary (2016-2017) and Treasurer (2017-2018) on the Biology Graduate Student Society.

Ms Dias was elected to UTM Campus Council for a one-year term on Campus Council, from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.
