Dr. Amrita Daniere

Professor & Acting Vice-President and Principal, UTM

My Research Interests

My most recent work, with Professor Michael Douglass at the University of Hawai’i, looks at the relationship between social capital, urban governance and civic spaces in Asian cities. We have recently published a co- edited book, “The Politics of Civic Space in Asia: Building Urban Communities” (Routledge, 2009), which includes chapters on Thailand, Viet Nam, Nepal, China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. I have also studied the relevance of social networks to environmental management and governance of urban areas.

I participate in the following research clusters:

Human-Environment Interactions
Urbanization, Transportation & Health

Graduate Student Recruitment

I welcome students interested in working on urban climate change resilience in Southeast Asian cities. The UCRSEA project (Urban Climate Resilience in Southeast Asia) is focused on applied research based in secondary cities of Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Viet Nam.
