If you have studied at an accredited post-secondary institution, you may be eligible for transfer credit. Credits completed at private colleges are not eligible for consideration.

Eligible transfer credits will be determined after you have been admitted to the university, submitted the transfer credit application and processing fee, and uploaded all supporting documentation (where required).

Please be aware that transfer students may have to complete more than the minimum 20.0 credits required for a degree in order to meet certain program requirements.

Transfer credits from post-secondary institutions cannot be forfeited. You may, however, request to have your generic and unspecified credits without exclusions marked as “extra”. To learn more, please visit our Request to Mark Post-Secondary Transfer Credit as Extra page.

See below for more information on transfer credits specific to your previous studies.

Ontario Colleges

Courses completed at an Ontario college will be considered for generic transfer credits only. This means that detailed course outlines are not required to be submitted.

Generic credits (HUM, SCI, and SSc) can only count towards your degree requirements (20.0 credits) and distribution requirements.

Maximum Credit

  • If you have, or will complete an Ontario College Certificate (or equivalent of one year of full-time study), you may be eligible for a maximum of 1.0 generic credit.
  • If you have, or will complete an Ontario College Diploma (or equivalent of two years of full-time study), you may be eligible for a maximum of 3.0 generic credits.
  • If you have, or will complete an Ontario College Advanced Diploma or an Ontario College Applied Degree (or equivalent of three or more years of full-time study), you may be eligible for a maximum of 5.0 generic credits (4.0 credits at the 100-level, and 1.0 credit at the 200-level).
  • If you have, or will complete, a combination of any of the above, note you will be awarded a maximum of 5.0 generic transfer credits (4.0 credits at the 100-level, and 1.0 credit at the 200-level).
  • Applicants to Commerce or Management are limited to a maximum of 3.5 generic transfer credits.

Colleges in other Canadian Provinces

Courses completed at colleges in other Canadian provinces will be considered for transfer credits based on the practices observed by the universities in that province.

University Applicants

Courses completed at an accredited university will be considered on an individual basis for transfer credit upon a review of detailed course outlines or syllabi.

Maximum Credit

The residency requirement at the University of Toronto states that students must complete at least half of their degree requirements at U of T in order to earn a University of Toronto degree. Since a degree at U of T requires the completion of 20.0 credits, the maximum amount of transfer credit that can be awarded is 10.0 credits.

  • If you have not completed a degree at a previous institution, you may be eligible for up to 10.0 transfer credits
  • If you have completed, or will complete a three- or four-year degree, you would be considered a Second Degree applicant and be limited to 5.0 transfer credits (4.0 credits at the 100-level, and 1.0 credit at the 200-level).

Please Note

  • Business, Commerce, and Management courses are only eligible for transfer credit consideration at the University of Toronto Mississauga if they were completed at a Universities' Canada member institution.

Transfer Explorer

If your previous studies were at a Canadian university, you can search our Transfer Explorer database to see what courses have been previously assessed for degree credit at U of T Mississauga.

This database is intended for reference only as course equivalencies are subject to change, and transfer credit is only granted upon an official evaluation by the Office of the Registrar in accordance to university policy.
