Apply for Transfer Credit

KN

You do not need to apply for transfer credit if:

  • You were admitted as a non-degree or visiting student.
  • You have studied for one year or less at an Ontario college.
  • Your previous studies ONLY consist of courses taken at the Faculty of Arts & Science or the University of Toronto Scarborough. We will retain your previous studies along with your CGPA to your U of T Mississauga record.
  • Your previous studies consist ONLY of Advanced Placement (AP), General Certificate of Education (GCE), International Baccalaureate (IB), French Baccalaureate or Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). These credentials will be assessed automatically for transfer credit if official results have been received by the end of the summer. For more information about these transfer credits, visit High School and Secondary Curriculum.

To submit your transfer credit application, follow the steps below.

1. Review important information

Our official transfer credit policies and procedures can be found here. You’ll find information on maximum credits, equivalencies, grade and program requirements, degree restrictions, and required documentation.

Select your applicant type at the top of the Transfer Credits page to determine your eligibility for transfer credits and how your previously completed credits will transfer to U of T Mississauga.

You can also review our Frequently Asked Questions for more details.

Once you have received an offer of admission from the university, you can proceed to Step 2:

2. Submit the transfer credit application (and pay the processing fee)

Your offer of admission will explicitly instruct you to submit this application. This application only needs to be submitted once, regardless of how many previous post-secondary institutions you have attended.

Visit the Transfer Credit Application to log in with your UTORid / JOINid and complete all required information.

Finalize the application process by submitting the $31 processing fee. The preferred method is using a credit card within the application.

3. Submit all supporting documentation

Course Outlines and Syllabi

If you attended a Canadian university, you can review Transfer Explorer for any previously assessed equivalencies. Should any of your previous courses not appear in this database, you will be required to submit detailed course outlines (i.e. syllabi) for us to have the course(s) assessed.

NOTE: If you attended an Ontario college belonging to the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAATs), you do not need to submit syllabi for your courses.

All course outlines can be uploaded when submitting your transfer credit application. Alternately, they can be emailed to the Transfer Credit Team at transfer.utm@utoronto.ca (you must include your full name and U of T Applicant/Student Number in the email). Please do not also email outlines which have been uploaded within the application.

Files containing course outlines should be attached as PDF or Word documents, one file per course.

A sufficiently detailed course outline or syllabus will contain the following important information:

  • Course code and title;
  • Course description;
  • Textbook used and/or list of readings;
  • Grading criteria and/or assessment breakdown; and
  • Topic list or weekly breakdown of content.

Official English translations must accompany transcripts and course outlines that are issued in a language other than English.

Notes:

  • Failure to provide sufficiently detailed course outlines or syllabi will delay the processing of your transfer credit assessment. It is in your best interest to submit supporting documentation as soon as you make your application and payment.
  • Students have 12 months from the start of their first academic year at U of T Mississauga to request changes to their assessment.

Official Final Transcripts

Please refer to your JOIN U of T “Terms and Conditions of your Admission” and “Your Admission Checklist” for instructions on what official documents are required and how they should be submitted to U of T Mississauga.

4. Notify us of any summer courses

If you are enrolled in, or plan to enrol in summer courses, ensure that you list these courses in the Course List section of this application. Input the grade as "IPR" and upload a syllabus if you have one. If a syllabus is not yet available, or you decide to enrol in courses after you have submitted the transfer credit application, you must email proof of enrolment and the syllabi to transfer.utm@utoronto.ca as soon as possible. Once your final grades become available, you must request that an official transcript be sent directly to U of T Mississauga's Transfer Credit Office before we can award any eligible credits for summer studies.

Please note that completing courses over the summer can impact your admission to the university. You must maintain the stated CGPA listed in your offer of admission and remain in good academic standing. Should you not satisfy these admission conditions, your offer of admission may be amended.

5. Check your email regularly

Once your transfer credit assessment is complete, you will be notified by email and prompted to log back into your application page for details and further instruction.

To remain updated on the status of your application you may log into your transfer credit application page at any time.

Ensure you check both your personal and U of T email accounts. You should receive notification regarding your assessment within 4 to 8 weeks of a completed application (i.e. application, payment, and detailed course outlines).
