Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is the federal agency that supports university-based research and training in the social sciences and humanities. SSHRC applicants use an on-line system to create, but not submit, their SSHRC grant applications. Applicants must register to access the system.
NEW - Insight Grants (formerly the Standard Research Grant)
In order to create a simpler, more flexible and effective system of application and assessment, SSHRC is in the process of implementing its new umbrella programs, Talent, Insight and Connection. Under this new program architecture, SSHRC’s Research Portfolio recently launched the new Insight Grants (IG) funding opportunity. The IG will take the place of the Standard Research Grants and several of SSHRC’s former strategic grants. The application deadline for the Notification of Intent (NOI) to apply for the Insight Grants program is August 15, 2013. The full application internal deadline is TBD, but will be mid-October, 2013.
SSHRC Insight Grants provide up to $500,000 over 3-5 years for long-term research initiatives in the social sciences and humanities. Proposals may involve any disciplines, thematic areas, approaches or subject areas eligible for SSHRC funding, and where applicable may indicate their relevance to SSHRC’s priority areas. There is no separate funding envelope for new scholars and the adjudication process makes no distinction between new and regular scholars.
Value: $7,000 to $500,000, over three to five years. The maximum budget request in any year is $200,000. You can view further instructions and access the online application through SSHRC's online system.
The UTM internal deadline is October 11, 2013. If you would like review of your proposal, please send it to Carla DeMarco by September 23, 2013.
