About Us

About the UTM's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Office (EDIO)

Equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives at U of T continue to evolve with key supporters—faculty, librarians, staff, and students—engaging in and advocating for equitable and meaningful inclusion at the university. Guided by institutional guidelines and leadership, the UTM EDIO was created to provide equity, diversity, and inclusion support and resources for campus community members.

For more information about work underway at the University of Toronto and the Division of People Strategy, Equity, and Culture’s can be found at the Institutional Equity Office and about EDI Leads at the university.

Mandate of UTM's EDIO

Staff at UTM's EDIO provide leadership in support of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism efforts that lead to a greater sense of belonging for all UTM's community members - faculty, librarians, staff, and students.

We advance the university’s commitment to build communities in which human rights are respected and the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion are integrated into all areas of academic, work, and campus life.

We approach this work with care and compassion and apply an intersectional lens to our educational programming and services. Our work spans a broad range of activities and initiatives that engage subjects, such as race, ethnicity, sexual and gender diversity, disability, creed (religion), and intersecting identities.

Pillars of UTM's EDIO

The initiatives of the EDIO are based on the following four pillars:

  1. Develop and deliver equity, human rights, and inclusion related educational programs, events, and community building opportunities for faculty, librarians, staff, and students at the University of Toronto Mississauga.

  2. Work with and assist administrative and academic departments as campus partners to develop and implement EDI initiatives and strategies.

  3. Advise and consult on equity and human rights matters and the interpretation of equity-related university policies.

  4. Provide confidential support, assistance, and resources on concerns and complaints relating to equity, discrimination, or harassment for faculty, librarians, staff, and students.
