Mandate of UTM's EDIO

Staff at UTM's EDIO provide leadership in support of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism efforts that lead to a greater sense of belonging for all UTM's community members.

We advance the university’s commitment to build communities in which human rights are respected and the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion are integrated into all areas of academic, work, and campus life.

We approach this work with care and compassion and apply an intersectional lens to our programs and services. Our work spans a broad range of activities and initiatives that engage subjects such as race, ethnicity,  sexual and gender identities, disability, creed (religion), and intersecting identities.

Pillars of UTM's EDIO

The initiatives of the IEO are based on the following four pillars:

  1. Develop and deliver equity, human rights, and inclusion related programs and community building for faculty, librarians, staff,  and students at the University of Toronto Mississauga.

  2. Work with administrative and academic departments across the university as campus partners.

  3. Advise, assist, and consult on equity and human rights related policy matters and development of inclusion strategies.

  4. Provide confidential support and assistance in resolving concerns and complaints relating to equity,  discrimination, or harassment.
