Student Spotlight: Tia Glista Wins the English Department’s Outstanding TA award

The Department of English & Drama is excited to recognize Tia Glista who won this year's English Department’s Outstanding TA award.
Tia was an exceptionally thoughtful, engaged, and expert TA: students praised her tutorials highly for their inclusive and kind atmosphere, and came to class excited by their conversations in tutorial the previous day. Her comments on graded assignments beautifully blended praise for students’ potential with carefully worded, supportive suggestions for growth. The quality of the guest lecture she gave on Audre Lorde’s “The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House.” was impressive in under 50 minutes, Tia guided students through an in-depth understanding of Lorde’s leadership in feminist activism and theory, and then used active learning strategies to walk them through an in-depth close reading of Lorde’s talk, engaging students across the class (and from both TAs’ tutorials) in the conversation. It is clear how much students sharpened their analytic skills under her mentorship.
