Lecture Me! Resources for Survival in Black Women’s Writing

“Poetry is Not a Luxury”: Resources for Survival in Black Women’s Writing with Professor Anna Thomas from the Department of English & Drama
In this talk, Professor Anna Thomas will explore how Black women writers have turned to poetry to navigate both chronic and critical difficulties in life.
With a particular focus on Audre Lorde, whose essay ‘Poetry is Not a Luxury’ inspires the title of this talk, Professor Thomas will share how poetry enables the exploration of the self and the other, the individual and society, and between ‘feeling,’ and ‘reason.’
