David Yee Wins Governor General's Award for Drama!

[Mississauga, October 28 2015] TDS grad David Yee has just been announced as winner of the 2015 Governor General’s Award for Drama – for carried away on the crest of a wave, first produced at the Tarragon Theatre and published by Playwrights Canada Press.

It was his second nomination. His first was for the lady in red. He is a past winner of the Mississauga Arts Award, also for his playwriting.

David is now Artistic Director of Fu-Gen Theatre Company. He will next be seen in the Factory Theatre revival of Leon Aureus’ Banana Boys, in which he co-starred for the original Fu-Gen production and shared in a Dora nomination for Best Ensemble. This time out he will be joined by fellow TDS grad Matthew Gin.

In the introduction to one of David’s other plays, Daniel MacIvor refers to him affectionately as “a brat”. The Sheridan-UTM Theatre and Drama Studies Program would heartily endorse that assessment. But if anything, it increases our pride in his accomplishments. Congratulations, David!
