Bank of Canada-University of Toronto-IMI-Conference on the Chinese Economy
The third annual Conference on the Chinese Economy jointly organized by the Bank of Canada, the Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI) and the Department of Economics was held on September 29-30, 2017 at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The conference provided researchers and policy-makers with the opportunity to discuss theoretical and empirical perspectives on China’s recent economic growth experience, its transition from a production-based to an innovation-based economy, and its implications for the global economy.
About sixty researchers from around the world attended the conference. Dr. Timothy Lane, a deputy governor of the Bank of Canada, gave a luncheon speech at the conference, and Dr. Fabrizio Zilibotti, former president of the European Economic Association and Tuntex Professor of International and Development Economics at Yale University, gave a keynote speech on “From Imitation to Innovation: Where is all the Chinese R&D going?”
The local organizers of the conference include Professor Gueorgui Kambourov and Professor Xiaodong Zhu from the Economics Department UTM.
