Denyse Thomasos at the AGO

The paintings of Art & Art History alum Denyse Thomasos were front and center when the Art Gallery of Ontario reopened in late July. Her work on The Maafa—the atrocities and injustices committed against people of African descent— was the subject of “Dismantling Abstraction,” a discussion led by Michelle Jacques, Chief Curator of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, and Renée van der Avoird, Associate Curator of Indigenous and Canadia Art at the AGO.

Thomasos exhibited around the world and taught at Temple University and Rutgers University before her tragic death in 2012.
