Professor Amanda Hargrove has agreed to extend her appointment as Director of the Centre for Medicinal Chemistry (CMC) at UTM, from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2031.

Professor Hargrove brought her deep scientific expertise and a strong commitment to inclusive team building to her previous term as Director of CMC, an interdisciplinary centre focused on developing new drug candidates that target cancer and other diseases. She effectively leveraged her leadership in RNA-targeted drug discovery—recognized through her Canada Research Chair (2024)—to strengthen CMC's integration with leading healthcare institutions and research partners.

Amanda Hargrove is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences at UTM. She completed her BSc in Chemistry and Spanish at Trinity University in Texas and her PhD in Organic Chemistry at University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the therapeutic potential of drugging disease-driving RNAs.
