“You need to have social skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to build a rapport with patients. You also need stamina, patience, and have a desire to always want to learn more,” says Lisa, who has a Masters in Physiotherapy.

Lisa, a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, continues to take additional courses for more manual skills.

“I volunteered at the hospital in various departments and in a rehab clinic during my university career,” she says.

“I planned pretty well in advance. Know what area of work you want to go into and do your homework. Research the field, know what courses you need, job shadow people, and make sure you enjoy it and have fun. It makes a huge difference in considering something just a job or life career."
