Information for Pedestrians & Cyclists

  • Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like phones or headphones when crossing the street or walking on campus.
  • Use Crosswalks: Always use designated crosswalks and pedestrian crossovers.
  • Look Before Crossing: Stop, look left, right, and left again to ensure the road is clear before stepping out.
  • Wear Helmets: This is the law for anyone under 18 and is recommended for all cyclists to prevent serious injuries.
  • Ride with Traffic: Ride your bike in the same direction as traffic to increase your visibility to motorists. 

Information for Drivers

  • Watch for Pedestrians & Cyclists: Be especially attentive to students walking or riding, particularly when turning or in busy areas.
  • Avoid Distractions: Do not use your phone, eat, or engage in other activities that take your focus off the road.
  • Follow Speed Limits: Obey posted speed limits and adjust your speed for road, weather, and traffic conditions.
  • Drive Sober: Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as this severely impairs your ability to operate a vehicle safely.
  • Maintain a Safe Distance: Keep a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of you. 

Campus Parking Safety

  • Park in Well-Lit Areas: Choose parking spots in well-lit areas of the campus lot.
  • Secure Your Vehicle: Lock all doors, roll up the windows completely, and keep valuables out of sight.
  • Have Keys Ready: Have your keys in hand as you approach your car.
  • Use Escort Services: Late at night, utilize campus escorts to accompany you to your vehicle for safety.
