Research

Acoustic Communication in Insects. Current research projects deal with the signal systems of certain Orthoptera and involve:

  1. Description and analysis of calling songs in temperate and tropical katydid spp. (Tettigoniidae)
  2. Mechanics of sound generation and hearing in crickets and katydids
  3. Determination of critical parameters in katydid acoustic signals
  4. Role of song in katydid mate choice; (5) Substrate signalling in acoustic Orthoptera
