Noam Harris' paper in Ecology

Noam Harris is a 1st-year M.Sc. student in the Kotanen lab. Raised in Vancouver, B.C., Noam has long been interested in plants and ecology. Through his undergrad at the University of British Columbia, he developed these interests, leading to a self-directed honours project under the supervision of Professor Diane Srivastava. During the summer of 2021, Noam spent countless hours in the field and lab examining the effects of urbanization on naturally contained tree hole communities.

New Center for Robotic Observations of the Biosphere and the Environment led by UTM Biology Professor Ingo Ensminger receives support from CFI Innovation Fund

A team of researchers led by Ingo Ensminger, Professor in the Department of Biology at U of T Mississauga will receive $4.7 million to support CROBE, the new Centre for Robotic Observations of the Biosphere and the Environment. CROBE will develop flying labs using drones and high resolution sensors that will enable researchers to study vegetation health and plant productivity, assess trace gases in the atmosphere or monitor environmental change.

Maha Jahangir wins CBA Prize at 2024 Ontario Biology Day

This past weekend, at the 2024 Ontario Biology Day, Maha Jahangir, 3rd year undergrad student, won the prestigious Canadian Botanical Association (CBA) award  for her poster on "The Impact of Flower Removal Timing on Fruit Abortion Rates in Heliconia tortuosa." Jahangir's poster presentation caught the eye of the judging committee, who awarded her  for the best botanical poster.

The Department of Biology, University of Toronto Mississauga, hosted an informative session on March 6, 2024 to provide students with insights into various biology courses and study abroad opportunities. The session featured presentations from past and current students enrolled in the BIO400 Internship course, the BIO481 Thesis Course, the BIO332 Arctic Ecology course, and UTM Abroad options.
