Osama Abdalla wins the Arabinda Guha Graduate Research Scholarship

The Department of Biology at the University of Toronto Mississauga is pleased to announce that Osama Abdalla has been awarded the Arabinda Guha Graduate Research Scholarship in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Osama, first year MSc student in Prof. Mary Cheng Lab, was selected by the faculty for her outstanding achievement in her program at UTM.
This award was originally established by Friends, Family & Colleagues of Professor A. Guha to honour oustanding scholars.
Osama wrote that:

In my third year of undergrad at UTM, I took BIO315: Human Cell Biology with Prof. Mary Cheng. This piqued my interest in the complexity of mammalian cells and the mechanisms resulting in diseased states.  My research is focused on the genetic basis of epilepsy and seizures in mice. According to epilepsy.com, 6 out of 10 people with epilepsy have an unknown cause of epilepsy. I am very grateful to be a recipient of the Arabinda Guha award. This award makes possible the strong aspirations I have in contributing to the body of knowledge regarding epilepsy, to make a difference, and to pave the way towards a greater understanding of the causes of epilepsy.

Congratulations, Osama, and Prof. Mary Cheng!
