Biology Student - the only Canadian to win Promega DOORS Scholarship

In the summer of 2020, Promega US launched the Diversification of Our Research Scientists (D.O.O.R.S) Scholarship to recognize and empower underrepresented minority students who demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career in a biotechnology related field. The award offers $5,000 to support tuition and fees required for enrollment or attendance at an educational institution, as well as books, supplies, and equipment required for courses. D.O.O.R.S. awardees also have access to scientific, career-path and technical writing mentorships.

Saumya Mathur won the inaugural DOORS scholarship, valued at $5000USD. She was the only Canadian recipient of the award. See all the winners here.

It is so gratifying to know that there are corporations who are pushing initiatives to celebrate underrepresented minority students in life sciences, and to help students like myself build their careers. I look forward to the opportunities that this scholarship will provide - not just for me, but for those who come after me, too. On that note, I can’t wait to see where this will take me, and I am excited to continue my research in #syntheticbiology at the University of Toronto Mississauga! Congratulations, Saumya!
