Neel Mistry
It is with great pleasure that we share the story of a brilliant, hardworking, and resolute Biology student, Neel Mistry.
Neel recently finished his third year of undergraduate studies at UTM, specializing in Biochemistry. Throughout his studies, Neel maintained a staggering cGPA of 4.00/4.00 with a remarkable overall average of 91% across all of his Biochemistry courses.
Throughout his time at UTM, Neel contributed to the community at large; both on and off campus. As an example, in his final year at UTM, Neel worked two concurrent jobs, trained volunteers at his local hospital, and led initiatives to help increase the diversity among medical trainees at UofT’s Faculty of Medicine, all while managing a full-course load and commuting from Brampton everyday. Despite numerous adversities, Neel continued to work hard and remain dedicated to his lifelong dream of becoming a Canadian physician.
In May 2019, Neel successfully gained admission into University of Ottawa’s MD Program just after his third year of undergraduate studies! He credits his astonishing achievements to the love and support of his family, the staff at UTM Career Centre, and his ability to seek out opportunities to cultivate self-growth.
In the future, Neel aims to work closely with pre-medical students to help them reach their full potential. His advice to students: work hard and chase your dreams, because dreams do come true.

Ammar Hafeez
We want to share with the world the arduous journey of an active, lively and cheerfully contagious Life Science Student in our Biology Department named Ammar Hafeez.
After graduating in June 2018, instead of pursuing a Masters or PhD, he wrote the MCAT, worked as a classroom teacher, equipped the youth with essential non-academic skills, worked alongside nurses in retirement homes, and supported & advocated for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Despite completely tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), and many other obstacles, Ammar stood his ground and remained resolute in following his passion of helping others and his dream to eventually become a physician.
Ammar successfully gained admittance at the UofT Faculty of Medicine MD Program on his first attempt!
Ammar’s personality, strong will, and unwavering resolve in the face of great diversity are an inspiration to us all. We are so proud of his accomplishment.

BIO400 Alumni News - New IT System for Bowel Screening
The Ministry of Health in New Zealand has just announced they have awarded a contract to Deloitte to build them a new IT system for their National Bowel Screening Programme, in which Christopher has been an integral part of the team in developing this new IT system.
