UTM vs. Seneca Men's Soccer Game Recap - Oct 2nd, 2016

MISSISSAUGA, ON. (October 2/16) – With the UTM Eagles Men's soccer season at the midpoint, the UTM squad (0-5-0 OCAA) were looking for a fresh start and their first win of the year.  Extremely wet weather had already cancelled the women's soccer game scheduled for earlier in the day.  The officials cleared the field for play and the men took to the field in very wet conditions.

The sloppy field did not bother the Seneca squad who were the first to score early, when Tamjir Ashraq scored at the 17 minute mark of the first half. UTM continued to press the play and had 13 shot attempts in the first half but could not beat the Seneca keeper and trailed 1-0 at the half.

The second half the UTM team came out very strong and scored 4 goals on only 9 shot attempts.  The Eagles opened the scoring at the 51 minute mark when Augustin Gignac found the back of the net.  UTM's Josh Iskra scored 6 minutes later to give UTM the lead for good.

UTM got two goals late in the second when Jaiman Rehal scored at the 85th minute and Augustin Gignac scored his second goal of the game at the 87th minute to seal the 4-1 victory for UTM.  Coach Brown was happy with his teams performance and hopes the team has found their much needed scoring touch. He said, "The boys showed a lot of mental strength. It was nice to get the first win at home ever. This is just a start if we want to get into playoffs."

With only four games remaining in the season the UTM Eagles squad will look to build on their first victory in hopes of capturing a play-off spot in the competitive OCAA Central division.
