MISSISSAUGA, ON. (September 20) – The University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles Varsity women’s soccer team saw a lot of improvement from their players since a tough loss to Sheridan College a week ago. The women took advantage of the George Brown (0-1) squad, who similar to UTM are fairly new to the OCAA, drawing 1-1.

The UTM women came out strong scoring ten minutes into the match, thanks to Sara Atkinson. Beginning the second half UTM played strong, but It wasn’t enough, they conceded their first goal of the game, tying the score 1-1.

“It was definitely a much better result compared to last week, although we were disappointed to not take all three points. I felt that we had the better opportunities and should have capitalized, but the performance was outstanding. Last week we had some unlucky bounces and our fitness hurt us in the second half,” said Head Coach, Damian Yearwood.

Their improvement on the defensive side of the ball is due to their work ethic in practice the past week. Even without a few players who could have been able to contribute the team is satisfied with the draw, “When we have our full team available with a deeper bench, we should do even better,” added Yearwood.

The Eagles have improved since their start, currently holding a 0-1-1 record. They look to improve even more and add to the win column when they play their next game against Seneca College on Wednesday, September 23rd.
