Overview:
Take charge of your personal safety with UTM Defends, a practical, beginner-friendly self-defence workshop designed to boost your confidence, awareness, and readiness in everyday situations.
Led by Shahid Zafar, Assistant Director, Campus Safety, this session introduces simple and effective techniques that anyone can learn — no prior experience required.
Participants will build skills in:
- Situational awareness and assessing risk
- Basic defensive movements
- Strategies to stay calm, confident, and prepared
Join us, get moving, and empower yourself with tools that support your safety and wellbeing.
Light refreshments will be served!
About the Facilitator:
Shahid is the Assistant Director of Campus Safety at UTM and has a 2nd degree blackbelt in Tae Kwon-Do. He loves being able to give back to the UTM community and share his passion for self-defence.
How to Prepare:
- Register in advance to secure your spot.
- Wear comfortable clothing and indoor, closed-toe shoes.
- Bring a lock if you would like to store any belongings in our locker rooms (towel service is complimentary for all students).
- Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
