UTM Athletic Awards Descriptions

NOMINATED AWARDS

Alice H. Pearson Award - Intramurals Athletes of the Year (2 recipients)
Presented to the male and female athletes that have demonstrated leadership, built community, and participated and contributed significantly to the UTM Intramurals Programs. This award goes to current students.

Referee of the Year (1 recipients)
Presented to the referees who have shown outstanding leadership, consistency, impartiality and strong commitment to UTM’s Fair Play Code while officiating in UTM Intramurals.

Game Manager of the Year (1 recipients)
Presented to the Game Manager who has shown reliability, impartiality and provided a welcoming environment for all participants. This individual has shown a commitment to UTM’s Fair Play Code while being in the role of Game Manager in the UTM Intramurals leagues and tournaments.

UTM Fair Play Award (4 recipients)
Presented to students who have demonstrated superior leadership skills both on and off the playing surface through their involvement in and positive impact on the UTM sport and athletic programs. These students have embodied and exemplified the Department’s Fair Play Code while participating and/or assisting in UTM sport and athletic programs.  

Tri-Campus Coach of the Year (1 recipient)
Presented to the UTM Tri-Campus coach who shows dedication and commitment to their team, as well as inspires and shares knowledge of sport with others. The award recognizes the importance of leadership, performance, and the value of human insight, which are integral to great coaching.

Varsity Coach of the Year (1 recipient)
Presented to the UTM Varsity coach who shows dedication and commitment to their team, as well as inspires and shares knowledge of sport with others. The award recognizes the importance of leadership, performance, and the value of human insight, which are integral to great coaching.

Cynthia E. Haddow Memorial Award (1 recipient)
Presented to the female student who best exemplifies leadership, enthusiasm, and strong commitment to her team. She strives for self-improvement and demonstrates true sportsmanship.

Rookies of the Year (2 recipients)
Presented to the male and female varsity athlete who is in their first year of undergraduate study at UTM and who has made significant contributions to their respective varsity team, both on and off the playing surfaces in their Rookie year. Coaches or teammates can nominate athletes from their respective teams.

Tri-Campus Athletes of the Year (2 recipients)
Presented to the top performing male and female Tri-Campus student-athlete based on their athletic achievements, both individually and to their respective team. Athletes do not have to be in their graduating year.

James J. Rae Award – Female Athlete of the Year (1 recipient)
Presented to the graduating female student who has had significant impact on their Varsity Team, in terms of their athletic achievements, leadership within their team, and a commitment to fair play.

J. Tuzo Wilson Award – Male Athlete of the Year (1 recipient)
Presented to the graduating male student who has had significant impact on their Varsity Team, in terms of their athletic achievements, leadership within their team, and a commitment to fair play.

NON-NOMINATED AWARDS

Academic Excellence Award (2 recipients)
Presented to the male and female Varsity athlete in their graduating year with the highest CGPA.

Tri-Campus, Varsity, and Olympic Weightlifting Team MVP
Presented to the athlete who exemplifies true dedication to their team, putting their teammates and coaches first, while demonstrating qualities of leadership and sportsmanship. The student does not need to be graduating to be eligible for this award. Coaches select recipients.

The Golden Eagle Award *new*
Presented to UTM student-athletes who have amassed 50 or more points during one academic year of play in Tri-Campus, UTM Intramurals, and/or Extramural leagues and tournaments. The award recognizes students each year who have participated in multiple Intramural programs, truly embodying the spirit of what it means to be an ‘UTM Eagle.’

Points awarded based on the following Point System:

+1 point per league game played

+1 point per league game played

+5 points per tournament played

+2 points per playoff game played

+2 points per playoff game played

 

+3 points per Intramural Tournament/  All-Star Game played

+3 points per Tri-Campus tournament played
