Develop Functional Strength and an Athletic Physique

Unlike bodybuilding, Olympic Style Weightlifting develops functional strength and an athletic physique. This style of training is widely used by many of today's best athletes not only to build explosive strength but also speed and coordination.

Develop athletic skill, flexibility and power and master the competitive lifts of the sport of Olympic Weightlifting.  This program is open to all levels looking to learn the clean & jerk and snatch, and other related full body exercises.  This is a great program for students and outside members looking to build strength, power and explosiveness through this very effective form of sport conditioning/cross training.  Our program extends to new lifters with a desire to compete within the sport of Olympic Weightlifting representing the University of Toronto. 

Members of the program will learn the foundations of technique and strength training under the leadership of athletes from UTM's Olympic Weight Lifting Team.  There are a number of competitions the program will attend from the novice to the advanced lifter including those hosted at UTM listed below.

Recent accomplishments include five medalists from the 2005 Canadian Championships, a Commonwealth champion, a Pan-Am Games champion, and a 2004 Athens Olympian.


Olympic Weightlifting Coaching Hours

Our programmed coaching hours teach the fundamental technique for the beginner to the advanced lifter without the expectation to compete.  Includes programming for cross training and conditioning in support of other sports or athletic endeavours.

  • Monday & Wednesday & Friday: 5-7pm & 7-9pm

Competitive athlete participants are selected to represent the University of Toronto on its team and need to be registered as a competitive athlete through the Ontario Weightlifting Association.
