Olympic Weightlifting at UTM
Develop athletic skill, flexibility and power while mastering the competitive lifts of the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. This program is open to all levels looking to learn the clean and jerk and snatch, and other related full-body exercises. Members of the program will learn the foundations of technique and strength training under the leadership and guidance of certified Olympic Weightlifting Coaches.
UTM offers two Olympic Weightlifting programs:
- Learn to Olympic Lift
- UTM Olympic Weightlifting team
Learn to Olympic Lift
Our programmed coaching hours teach the fundamental technique for those new to Olympic Weightlifting, without the expectation to compete. The drop-in programming includes cross training and conditioning in support of other sports or athletic endeavours.
- Tuesday and Thursday - 4-5:30 p.m. in the High Performance Centre
No registration required! Simply drop-in to the High Performance Centre in the RAWC, and a coach will walk you through the programming.
UTM Olympic Weightlifting Team
Have what it takes to become a Weightlifting Champion? Competitive athlete participants are selected to represent the University of Toronto on its team and need to be registered as a competitive athlete through the Ontario Weightlifting Association.
- Monday and Wednesday and Friday: 5-7 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. - High Performance Centre
Recent accomplishments include five medalists from the 2005 Canadian Championships, a Commonwealth champion, a Pan-Am Games champion and a 2004 Athens Olympian. Visit the OWA website for upcoming meets.
