Register Now

Child & Youth Registration opens at 8:00 am on Friday, June 7th. 

Please note that registration will be done on an ONLINE ONLY basis on the first day.  No registration will be made available at the membership services desk.  In-person registration will become available on Saturday, June 8th at 9:00 am.

If a class is full it is highly encouraged to register on the waitlist.  If there is sufficient demand additional programming will be evaluated.

We recently upgraded the software platform used to manage sport and recreational activities.  Because of the upgrade, some of our members will need to create new accounts on our new system.  We strongly encourage you to create your account and add your dependents ahead of registration day for a faster, more efficient registration experience.

Online registration is by credit card only (American Express, Mastercard or Visa).  Students, staff and faculty can log in using their UTORid and password.  All other users can log in using their local account to register. 

Pre-School (3 - 6 years)

Aquatics Preschool (1 instructor to 4 children)

For children 3 to 6 years. Classes are offered in levels: Sea Turtle, Salamander, Sunfish, Crocodile, and Whale. All children must be able to participate without a parent, must be 3 years old by the first class and must be 37 inches tall. Children learn front and back floats, swimming and water safety. They are offered in shallow and deep water.

Please see the table at the bottom of the page for a description of each level. Our lessons run on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

If you have already taken lessons before using a program other than the Canadian Red Cross, please click here for our Conversion Chart to help determine the appropriate Red Cross level for your child.

Please note that we do not offer make up lessons for missed classes.  Refunds are only available before the second class.

In the event of a cancellation, no make-up classes will be offered in the Spring & Summer sessions. A refund for the cancelled class will be processes.

Red Cross Swim Program Level Descriptions

Level

Prerequisites

Sea Turtle

30 mins

4  per class

3-5 years

Swimmers work on submersion, front and back floats and glides, jumping into chest-deep water with assistance, kicking on front and front swim.

Sea Otter

30 mins

4  per class

3-5 years and successful completion of Sea Turtle

Swimmers work on front and back floats and glides, kicking on front with a buoyant object, and will be able to swim 1 metre upon completion of this level.

Salamander

30 mins

4  per class

3-5 years and successful completion of Sea Otter

Swimmers work on improving their front and back float and jumping into chest-deep water unassisted. Kicking is added to the front and back glide and swimmers will be able to swim 2 metres upon completion.

Sunfish

30 mins

4  per class

3-6 years and successful completion of Salamander

Swimmers work on kicking and can perform glides (front and back), enter deep water safely, float in deep water, swim with a PFD, and swim 5 metres continuously.

Crocodile

30 mins

4  per class

3-6 years and successful completion of Sunfish

Swimmers further develop the front and back glide with kick, front and back swim, jump into deep water, swim with a PFD in deep water, and swim 10 metres continuously.

Whale

30 mins

4  per class

3-6 years and successful completion of Crocodile

Swimmers increase their distance on front and back glide with kick, increase distance on front and back swim, learn the sitting dive, and will be able to swim 15 metres continuously upon completion of the level.
