Xiangying Huo holds a Ph.D. in Education, with specialization in Language, Culture, and Teaching from York University in Canada and has an M.A. in Language Learning and Education from the University of York in the United Kingdom. Xiangying was a professor of English in China for over a decade and a visiting scholar at Michigan State University. She has worked with students across a variety of disciplines as a writing specialist at York University, the University of Toronto, and UTM in the past seven years. Currently Xiangying is an Assistant Professor in the Teaching Stream (CLTA) and English Language Learning (ELL) specialist at the Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre (RGASC).  

Xiangying’s research interests include writing studies, applied linguistics, ESL/EFL policy and pedagogy, Writing Center issues, internationalization in higher education, intercultural and cross-cultural teaching and learning, diversity and multilingualism, language ideology, and World Englishes.
