We work in partnership with the Teaching Assistants’ Training Program (TATP), a tri-campus peer-to-peer training program for any student working as a TA at the University of Toronto.
TA Support at Any Time During the Academic Year
UTM faculty and instructors may contact us at academicskills.utm@utoronto.ca to arrange for in-course TA support at any time during the academic year.
RGASC instructors offer support and specialized training for teaching assistants and their supervising instructors on a course-by-course basis.
Individualized training sessions, led by RGASC instructors in consultation with course instructors, are based on specific department or course needs such as:
- developing assessment tools
- grading assignments
- classroom management
- team-building
Training for New First-Time TAs
All students or post-doctoral fellows working as teaching assistants for the first time must receive four hours of paid job training from their hiring department, in accordance with the current collective agreement for CUPE 3902 Unit 1, ratified Feb. 8, 2018. Typically these hours are included in the distribution of hours outlined on the Description of Duties and Allocation of Hours (DDAH) form.
TA Job Training Sessions at UTM:
First-time TAs may fulfill their mandatory training requirements by attending "catchall" first-time TATP Job Training sessions. These sessions take place at UTM in September and January.
Department-arranged training:
Instructors who wish to request a group training session for new TAs should send a request to academicskills.utm@utoronto.ca.
Visit our Training for New First-Time TAs page for more details.
