Course Description: Rising sea levels, climate emergencies, global displacements, energy finitude, poverty, mediated mass-surveillance, conspiracies, alternative facts, populism, pandemics – all provide unsettling markers of our times. As chroniclers and theorists of the moment, anthropologists are providing key insights into some of today’s most pressing problems, as well as new ways to understand them. This advanced seminar explores a range of contemporary concerns and some of the ways anthropologists are engaging with them.
Prerequisites: ANT204H5 and (ANT208H5 or permission of the department).
