Ashley Butts (BA 2005, MA 2006)
Corporate Counsel, Economical Insurance
Ashley Butts holds an honours bachelor of arts in sociology from U of T Mississauga. After graduating from UTM, Butts went on to earn a master's degree in criminology at U of T's St. George campus, and a law degree from Osgood Hall Law School. Butts currently works as as corporate counsel for Waterloo-area firm Economical Insurance where she handles legal issues related to regulatory complince, risk management and privacy.
Previously, as a policy analyst with the Ontario government, Butts co-led a project to determine allocation of new funding for community programs across the province. She also worked as a project coordinator at the University of Toronto, and held several positions as a research assistant throughout her studies.
Butts has won several awards, including an Ontario Graduate Scholarship and the Pinnacle Award for Outstanding Achievement in Innovation and Creativity for her work with the government. As an entreprenuer, Butts launched Ashley Jane where she used her flair for personal style as an image consultant and coach to help clients achieve their best and excel in their careers.
Butts currently serves as corporate counsel for Economical Insurance to provide regulatory compliance, risk management, marketing and privacy legal advice and support to senior counsel, management and corporate business units.
