Website Coordinator and Data Manager

Position Description:

  • Programming skills and interest in new technologies will be an asset.
  • This position will provide an opportunity for a student to combine an interest in computers and data management with an interest in new technologies and environmental issues.
  • Website maintenance expected.
  • Possibility for self-directed environmental project in the name of campus greening.
  • Students may also assist with the integration of the UTM Weather site, the UTM Green Team site, the PV output screen and the UTMonitor site to increase the education and research parameters of the combined data.

Ink Jet Coordinator

Position Description:

  • Coordinator to expand upon the current program that diverts a large volume of refillable ink jet laser cartridges from the landfill.
  • Responsibilities for coordinating pickups with staff on campus.
  • Research and implement programs regarding other types of institutional waste (i.e. batteries and ewaste).
  • There also may be an opportunity for a self-directed environmental project in the name of campus greening.

Sustainable Campus Research Assistant

Position Description:

  • Researches and presents information on UTM environmental sustainability issues
  • Develops and delivers educational programs and materials on sustainable campus systems and environmental awareness
  • Research sustainability initiatives at other universities
  • Help to educate the local community about the ecosystem regeneration projects underway on the campus grounds
  • Possibility for self-directed environmental project in the name of campus greening.

UTM Recycling Coordinator

Position Description:

  • Liaising with all levels of staff at the University of Toronto Mississauga
  • Research, develop and assist with implementing and maintaining a comprehensive recycling program at UTM
  • This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of a recycling program at a large institution
  • Some literature development - training will be provided
  • Tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and excellent oral and written communication skills will be utilized
  • Also required is a good background in environmental issues and a familiarity with municipal recycling policies is preferred

Campus Care Litter Campaign Coordinator

Position Description:

  • Expand the anti-litter program at UTM
  • Prepare and distribute informative litter tips and incentives to the community as well as prepare advertisements conveying the impact of litter on campus
  • Create slogans for a campus-wide campaign
  • Possibility for self-directed environmental project in the name of campus greening.

Campus Environmental Audit Assistant

Position Description:

  • Compiles information to establish the ecological footprint of the UTM campus through environmental audit tools
  • Gather information for the Campus Sustainability Assessment Framework as designed by the Sierra Youth Coalition.
  • Some guidance will be offered by faculty members

Alternative Transportation Coordinator

Position Description:

  • The student will work to promote alternative transportation methods to campus
  • Promoting current efforts in BikeShare, ride share, carpool and transit
  • Developing brochure material and website will require creativity
  • Collecting and interpreting commuting data will require problem solving skills
  • There may also be the opportunity for an independent project in the name of campus sustainability

Campus Compost Coordinator

Position Description:

  • Responsible for monitoring and improving the current composting system on residence by preparing brochures and other promotional material that will help to educate residence students on the ABC's of composting.
  • You will learn how, as well as instruct others on how to make and maintain a "worm compost" as well as other green initiatives
  • No prior knowledge of composting is required.

Environmental Data Manager

Position Description:

  • The students will gather data on ecologically-relevant aspects of UTM in order to create a digital map. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a variety of geomatic technologies. The student will need to collect information from existing data sources (air photos, GOS datafiles) as well as identify and map renaturalization, controlled-burn, and other ecologically interesting sites around campus using GPS units. It is advised that the student be familiar with GIS sotware but some training will be provided. Sarosh Jamal (Geography's Geo Computer Specialist) and Aubrey Iwaniw (Environmental Projecct Coordinator) will provide Guidance on the project. .
