I am an evolutionary-ecologist interested in plant-herbivore interactions occurring over very short time scales (weeks) but also over historical timescales (phylogenetic history). My doctoral studies explored how rapid evolution impacted concurrent population dynamics in aphids. Currently I am experimentally testing how human domestication of crop plants has influenced resistance to generalist herbivores. By studying plant defensive traits, I hope to generate a mechanistic understanding of these patterns. Using techniques of experimental evolution I am also studying how domestication and plant traits drive herbivore rapid evolution.

My second project aims to quantify how much herbivory occurs across all vascular plants and to determine whether taxonomic groups differ in their rates of resistance. To do so a large phylogenetically informed literature review will be used.
