Somalis in Canada

Somalia featured prominently in the news last month after al-Shabaab, a terrorist group that started there, attacked the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, killing at least 67 people and wounding many others. In the wake of teh deadly incident, Elaine Smith talked with Rima Berns-McGown, a lecturer in the Department of Historical Studies at U of T Mississauga, about Somali-Canadians, the impact the incident had on them and their experiences in Canada. Dr. Berns-McGown studies the Somali community in the diaspora.
