Anthropology prof receives CIHR New Investigator Salary Award

This past June, Professor Tracey Galloway from U of T Mississauga’s Department of Anthropology received $300,000 through a CIHR New Investigator Salary Award in the competition’s Priority Announcement for Research in First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis Health.

The award provides support over 5 years for her research project, “Assessment, applied health and healthy policy research to improve health outcomes in northern indigenous populations.”

This year the Research Office’s Lab Liaisons event diverged from its typical focus for highlighting research in one single department and instead identified the theme of earth science and ecology for a “Dishing the Dirt” session. Professors Ingo Ensminger from Biology, Yuhong He from Geography and Marc Laflamme from Chemical & Physical Sciences certainly delivered.

UTM Researchers Receive Connaught Funding

Professor Julie MacArthur is one of 16 U of T Mississauga researchers to receive support generously provided by the U of T’s Connaught Fund Program. With a New Researcher Award of over $18,900, she is off to Kenya to pursue her project, “Radical Cartographies: Mapping Sovereignty, Belonging, and Dissent in Eastern Africa, 1950-76,” which examines colonial governance and territorial and geographic practices in the postcolonial era in Africa.

U of T Mississauga Receives over $3.2 in NSERC Grant Funding

Professor Marc Johnson is one of 20 faculty members at UTM to have received NSERC funding and it will go a long way to support his research on the process of plant defences against herbivores within the Department of Biology.

“The NSERC funds will help us to establish a better, more comprehensive understanding of the biology of plant-herbivore interactions,” says Johnson.
