Chemistry Award for U of T Mississauga researcher

Gunning, a professor in UTM’s Department of Chemical & Physical Sciences, is a medicinal chemist who investigates small molecules that bind to target proteins in efforts to develop more effective therapeutics for the treatment of several types of cancer including breast cancer, leukemia and brain cancer. The Bernard Belleau Award, which is sponsored by Vertex Pharmaceutical (Canada) Incorporated and awarded by the Canadian Society for Chemistry and the Chemical Institute of Canada, recognizes a scientist in Canada who has made significant contributions through biochemical or organic chemical mechanisms to the field of medicinal chemistry.
