More than 160 IMI alumni, faculty and staff gathered at the Rosewater Room in downtown Toronto to network and reconnect with friends and colleagues last Wednesday evening.

“It was amazing to meet so many articulate, passionate and successful alumni from IMI and the commerce and management programs,” said Daniel Booth, UTM’s director of alumni relations.

“In particular, it was wonderful to gather these individuals together not only to network, but to celebrate our campus’ 50th anniversary, and the important role that UTM and our alumni play in the local community.”

The popular event was provided with UTM 50th Anniversary funding that was put towards creating an engaging and inspiring evening that celebrated the success of IMI’s grads.

Donna Heslin, director of graduate programs and external relations at IMI, believes that IMI’s diverse group of alumni are incredibly important on many levels.

“We rely on our alumni for student mentoring, employment support, and we look to them to provide feedback so we can grow our programs and ensure that our graduates are prepared to enter the workforce with all the skills they need to be competitive.”

“Their excellence in industry is creating word-of-mouth marketing for IMI and all of its programs,” Heslin said, adding: “The IMI Alumni Mixer is a chance for us to celebrate our alumni success and thank them for being our biggest proponents.”

Management graduate, Matthew Zak (class of 2015), spent the evening swapping stories with former classmates about campus life and what is was like during his time as student.

“Thanks to its relatively small size and community feel, IMI alumni are a tighter group than those of most business schools,” he observed. “I can name everyone from my program year and plenty of people who graduated before and after me.”

“And with UTM’s alumni base being incredibly international, it definitely opens doors to great opportunities both domestically and abroad,” said Zak.

IMI thanks everyone who attended the event, and looks forward to next year’s alumni gathering.

“We have seen so many exciting changes over the years, and we look forward to what the future holds for all of our IMI students and alumni,” said Heslin.
