November's Student of the Month is Rebeeyah Jabeen. She is a fourth year economics student doing a commerce-accounting specialist at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She is currently the Corporate Social Responsibility Director with the Undergraduate Commerce Society (UCS), and this month planned and organized a week long charity event called 5 Days of Giving. The event provided UTM student and faculty/staff the opportunity to give non-monetary and monetary donations as well as volunteer for different initiatives. 5 Days of Giving raised over $340 of non-perishable foods, 12 bags of clothing for Salvation Army and Muslim Welfare Centre, $260 worth of toys for Sick Kids Foundation, and 130 presents for derpriviledged families in the Peel Region. She has no doubt impacted many lives in the UTM community and the Peel Region as well with her big heart and love for giving back!

Here are Rebeeyah's Top 5 Tips for the Campus Community

  1. Be yourself but always grow

In a world that tries to conform and mold you into the type of person you don't want to be, be yourself but continue to grow and improve yourself as a student, as a friend, as a family member, as a community member, and as an individual. There is only one of you so why not make that you the best it can be.

  1. Take initiative

Do something different that helps you stand out from the crowd, whether it be starting a new club, innovating an existing product or service, being known as the funniest person in the room, or even helping your hardworking parents.

  1. Give up on giving up and always have hope

Failure hurts but failure can also turn into hope if you give up on giving up. Like Dory said, "just keep swimming" and you'll get where you need to go. If your friends have already gotten where they need to go and you're still struggling, just keep swimming at your own pace and you'll get there in time.

  1. Don't fear change

As scary as change can seem, change is good, change will help you grow, change is the only constant in life.

  1. Stay connected by helping others

Go out of your way to help other people without expecting anything in return. If your intentions are true, you'll soon realize that you've actually indirectly gotten something in return, whether it be new friends, new opportunities, or a new journey. Always give and be thankful.
