PWC student-authors launch books

PWC students from the 2010 WRI420H Making a Book course launched 11 books in a night of readings held June 8 from 7-9 p.m. at the Supermarket Restaurant in Toronto. As part of the course, which takes students through the practices of book publishing, the students wrote, edited, typeset, printed and marketed their own books.
About Local Food: New book a conversation about sustainability

PWC faculty member Laurel Waterman has just published About Local Food: Four Conversations with Toronto Food Activists. The book, published by Life Rattle Press, presents four interviews with activists in the Toronto local food movement. About Local Food is a story of people pursuing visions of sustainability, of people working for change in Toronto's food system. PWC faculty member wins Ontario Arts Council award

PWC faculty member Robert Price has received a 2010 Writers’ Works in Progress grant from the Ontario Arts Council. Price was among the 21 individuals selected from 169 applicants across Ontario to receive a $12,000 grant, designed to assist professional writers completing book-length works of literary merit. With this grant, Price will continue his work on his comic novel.
Faculty member to publish novel

PWC faculty member David Penhale will soon celebrate the publication of his first novel, The Expatriate’s Daughter, by Cormorant Books. With his first book scheduled to come out in fall of 2011, Penhale has started on his second.

The PWC community recently celebrated the 2010 publication of the PWC’s student journal, Mindwaves (Vol. 4). Published annually, Mindwaves selects the best of narrative and creative nonfiction pieces written by University of Toronto Mississauga students. PWC students make selections for and design and edit Mindwaves.
