PsychED - Psychology Experiment Database

The Psychology Experiment Database PsychED has been designed to allow researchers to add experiments and have participants sign up through an online secure program.  This application can have both PSY100 and paid participants sign up. UTORid and password are required for PSY100 participants only.  Paid participants sign up by submitting their contact information.

PSY100 Participants

All students enrolled in the Introductory Psychology course, PSY100Y5, are allowed to participate in experiments or complete substitute assignments to earn up to 4% of their final grade.

PSY100Y5 students who elect to satisfy the research participation requirement by serving as volunteer subjects in ongoing research are required to sign up for experiments through the PsychED application program.

The last day for a student to participate in an experiment for PSY100 credit is the last day of term for any given session (click here for updated dates).  If you have a student participate in your study after the last day of term, you must give compensation other than PSY100 credit.  If your experiment ends with students still signed up, give the students credit for your study.

In order to have use of the PSY100 subject pool, you must provide a substitute assignment.  If you do not provide a substitute assignment you will be denied access to the Experiment Database PSY100 subject pool.  Click here for instruction on submitting a substitute assignment.

Paid Participants

Individuals wishing to participate in studies to receive financial compensation can sign up by going to the Paid Experiments webpage.  Participants will be asked to provide name and contact information.

IMPORTANT NOTE: PSY100 students participating for academic credit should NOT receive financial compensation unless participation is after the last day of term.

Ethics Approval and Accountability

Use of the Psychology Experiment Database PsychED and having access to PSY100 students and/or paid individuals for research purposes is predicated on the assumption that all experiments, studies, or research programmes employing human subjects have been approved by the University's Office of Research Services (ORS) or by UTM's in-house Psychology Ethics Review Committee.  Ethics approval is the responsibility of individual supervisors and is a requirement for all studies posted.

A 'supervisor' is defined as any person holding a full-time professional appointment in the Department of Psychology at UTM (or an individual so designated by the Psychology Associate Chair in consultation with the Subject Pool Committee).

All experimenters are required to confirm reading and acknowledging the Participation Guidelines before being allowed to add any experiments.  You are advised to review the Participation Guidelines.
